WARDOGS GUIDE

WARDOGS FUNDAMENTALS 101

10 things every new or returning player should know.

Find the fight. Understand the objective. Help your team win.

Life is busy. Work, family, and whatever needs fixing this week have already claimed most of the day. When you finally sit down to play, you want to make that time count.

This Gaming Dad guide covers what matters, why it matters, and what to do next. The aim is a shorter learning curve, a more useful first match, and less shouting at the screen.

You’ve already got enough things raising your blood pressure. Your hobby could at least try to cooperate.

Brand new? Start here.

Open your map → Find the Control Zone → Join teammates working toward the Hot Zone.

Use cover and help hold the objective. Read the two zone sections first, then pick a support job that interests you. You don’t have to learn everything before you’re useful.

How you win

Your team’s presence in the objective area determines who scores. The Hot Zone gives that presence extra weight.

01 · Control Zone

WHAT IS IT?

The main objective area on the map. Three teams compete to have the most players inside it. The team with the strongest presence earns points, and the first team to the match target wins.

WHY CARE?

This is how your team wins the match. Every player inside the Control Zone helps your team earn points. Kills matter when they help take or hold it. Your kill count can look perfectly respectable while your team loses.

DO THIS:

  1. Find the boundary on your map. Look for teammates inside the Control Zone and plan a covered approach toward them.
  2. Take a position inside it. Use cover, watch an enemy approach, and help teammates hold that ground.
  3. Check before leaving. A supply run or useful flank may help; chasing someone because they annoyed you usually doesn’t.

02 · Hot Zone

WHAT IS IT?

The smaller, moving area inside the Control Zone. Players here count double toward control and earn double cash.

WHY CARE?

Twice the scoring weight. Twice the cash. One player in the Hot Zone counts as two toward your team’s control of the objective. Twice the points, twice the fun—and twice the intensity. You still help anywhere inside the Control Zone, but the Hot Zone is where your presence matters most.

DO THIS:

  1. Find its current position on the map. Look for cover inside the Hot Zone and a route your teammates can support.
  2. Move in with support. If the approach is exposed, work with teammates to cross it rather than charging in alone.
  3. Check the map as the fight develops. When the Hot Zone moves, choose your next position instead of automatically abandoning good cover.

Move the fight

Towers and player-built Drills can influence where the Hot Zone goes. FOBs and supplies help your team prepare and hold the position it wants to fight from.

03 · Towers & codes

WHAT IS IT?

The numbered towers on the map contain terminals. Capturing towers reveals parts of a code. Entering the completed code at a tower can draw the Hot Zone toward it.

WHY CARE?

Choosing where to draw the Hot Zone can let your team defend ground it already holds. Capturing towers serves that plan; collecting digits nobody shares achieves rather less.

DO THIS:

  1. Join a tower capture. Find a numbered tower on the map, approach with teammates, and help secure its terminal.
  2. Share what the terminal reveals. Pass on the visible code digits and the tower number so teammates can combine the information.
  3. Use the completed code with a plan. Agree which tower the team can defend, enter the code there, and watch the Hot Zone.

04 · FOB — Forward Operating Base

WHAT IS IT?

A player-built supply and construction hub in the field. It stores resources and supports building around it. The FOB itself does not provide a respawn point.

WHY CARE?

A supplied FOB lets your team build and maintain a forward position. Its location needs to support the fight or a planned objective move. Substantial walls don’t make a location important.

DO THIS:

  1. Find a FOB your team is using. Check that it supports the current fight or a planned Drill position before committing supplies.
  2. Take one useful job. Deliver needed resources, help finish a structure, or guard an approach while teammates work.
  3. Keep the supply route open. Watch for approaching enemies and leave room for vehicles to get in and out.

05 · Player-built Drill

WHAT IS IT?

A structure built at a FOB and supplied with fuel. Activating it can draw the Hot Zone toward that position. This is the player-built Drill, separate from the tower code system.

WHY CARE?

It can bring the objective toward cover and defences your team has already prepared. That advantage depends on players being there to hold it. The Drill won’t do the defending.

DO THIS:

  1. Find the FOB where your team is using a Drill. Confirm whether they need fuel or defenders before setting off.
  2. Help prepare the position. Deliver the requested fuel or cover an enemy approach while teammates handle the Drill.
  3. Watch the Hot Zone after activation. If it reaches your position, hold covered ground inside it and keep watching for enemy approaches.

06 · Supplies & logistics

WHAT IS IT?

The supplies and transport that keep forward positions working. Construction needs building materials; fuel, ammunition and mechanical supplies support equipment and vehicles.

WHY CARE?

A useful delivery lets teammates keep fighting and building. The important part is bringing what the position actually needs. An impressive stockpile of the wrong thing is still the wrong thing.

DO THIS:

  1. Confirm the load and destination. Ask the players at the forward position what supplies they need and where to bring them.
  2. Check your cargo and route. Make sure you’re carrying the requested supplies and avoid reported fighting where possible.
  3. Complete the delivery at the FOB. Confirm the supplies are available to the players using it before heading back for another load.

Two kinds of “drill”

Tower / tower drillPlayer-built Drill
Already part of the map’s tower objective.Built by players at a FOB.
Uses the tower code system.Uses the FOB’s fuel supply.
Can draw the Hot Zone toward the tower. Can draw the Hot Zone toward the FOB.

If someone calls for help at “the drill,” confirm whether they mean a tower or the one at a FOB.

Keep your team fighting

Building, forward spawns, revives and sensible spending help your team sustain its presence on the objective.

07 · Hammers & building

WHAT IS IT?

Hammers are construction tools. Different tiers give access to different structures, while the FOB supplies the resources needed to build them.

WHY CARE?

A well-placed wall or firing position can help teammates survive and hold ground. Build to solve that problem. Adding another wall because you have a hammer is a familiar temptation.

DO THIS:

  1. Choose a specific job at a FOB. Look for exposed teammates who need cover or a useful structure that needs finishing.
  2. Check the build area, menu and supplies. Stay within the FOB’s build radius and confirm your hammer and resources suit the job.
  3. Finish it before starting another. Leave access for teammates and supply vehicles, then check whether more construction is needed.

Community reference: building and hammer requirements.

08 · Spawn vehicles

WHAT IS IT?

Dedicated team vehicles that provide forward spawning when available, letting players respawn closer to the fight. Ordinary transport and FOBs should not be mistaken for these spawn points.

WHY CARE?

A protected spawn gets teammates back onto the objective sooner. Losing it means more time travelling and fewer players holding the zone. Parking it is a decision for the whole team.

DO THIS:

  1. Check your available spawn options. Choose a forward vehicle when it offers a sensible route back to the objective.
  2. Check your surroundings after spawning. Report enemies threatening the vehicle and help keep the area usable for teammates.
  3. Coordinate before moving it. If it needs repositioning, choose cover that serves the fight. Don’t relocate everyone’s spawn to save yourself a walk.

Community reference: spawn vehicles.

09 · Medics & revives

WHAT IS IT?

Reviving gets a downed teammate back up without a fresh spawn. Medical equipment supports this role; check what the gear in your loadout actually does.

WHY CARE?

A revive preserves a teammate’s position and saves the trip back. It only helps if the rescuer survives long enough to do it. The same gunfire generally works on both of you.

DO THIS:

  1. Check your medical gear before heading out. Know which item you’ll use to revive and whether you have what it needs.
  2. Check the danger before approaching. Deal with the threat or get teammates to cover you, then move in and revive.
  3. If you’re down, give useful information. Say where the fire came from and give nearby help a chance to reach you.

10 · Money & loadouts

WHAT IS IT?

Cash pays for weapons, gear and vehicles. Your loadout is what you take into each life. Combat and teamplay earn cash, and your balance carries between matches.

WHY CARE?

What you spend now affects your options later. Better equipment can help with the right job; a higher price doesn’t supply the missing plan.

DO THIS:

  1. Choose your job before shopping. Take the gear needed to fight, revive or support a base. You don’t need to buy for every possible task.
  2. Check the cost against your balance. Buy what you understand and leave enough money to equip yourself again.
  3. Try one unfamiliar item at a time. Learn how it works before deciding whether to buy it again.

The relationships worth remembering

  • Control Zone: your presence helps your team compete for points. Inside the Hot Zone, you count double.
  • Towers and Drills: codes or a fuelled FOB Drill can influence where the Hot Zone goes.
  • FOBs and supplies: give your team somewhere to build and maintain a useful position.
  • Spawns and revives: reduce the time teammates spend getting back to the objective.

Before you build another wall…

Ask yourself: “How is this helping us control the objective?”

If fourteen teammates are building the Maginot Line in the middle of nowhere while the enemy holds the objective…

Maybe don’t become number fifteen.
